Miatas
at the Gap 2000
On July 28, 2000,
five intrepid BRMC members (Joel Barnette, Kim Brown, Roger Huffman, John
Kuykendall, and Larry Martin) traveled to Deal’s Gap, on the Tennessee/North
Carolina Border in the Great Smokies to meet with nearly 300 other Miata
lunatics to drive the famous (infamous?) stretch of road known as the
“Dragon”, and just generally visit and talk Miatas. The Dragon -- Sounds
ominous, doesn’t it? Maybe it should, as several Miata pilots with bent
sheet metal and wounded egos found out over the weekend of July 28-30,
2000.
What follows is more
of a travelogue of getting there and back, rather than a true picture
of the Gap non-event. For that, you will have to personally travel to
the Gap and challenge the Dragon. Maybe you will come out unscathed or
maybe not! Anyway, you haven’t lived until you have “slayed the Dragon”.
